UPDATE: Petty Fishfry moved to Snyder Farm Restaurant

The Petty Fishfry – an annual fundraising event of the Randolph County Republican Party – has been moved to an alternate venue due to forecasted inclimate weather.  The event will be held Friday, October 28, 2011, 5:00-8:00 p.m., at the Snyder Farm Restaurant, 2880 Beckerdite Road, Sophia NC.  Tickets are $30.

GOP tells Gov. Perdue to make deeper budget cuts

The GOP majority wants Gov. Perdue to cut $700 million out of the budget before June 30, producing additional savings that would help close next year’s projected $3.7 billion budget gap.

“We are hopeful we are going to get to more than $400 million,” said Sen. Neal Hunt, a Raleigh Republican who is one of the chief budget writers. “She has not agreed to that yet.”

Brubaker will lead Appropriations panel

Former House Speaker Harold Brubaker will be the new chairman of the House Appropriations Committee.

Brubaker, an Asheboro real estate appraiser and cattle breeder served as speaker from 1995 to 1998, when the Republicans were last in control of the House. He has served in the House since 1977.
